I use mine as my home phone, as well as keep in touch with family and freinds in the US, UK, Middle East, and Brazil on it. No issues with sound, and connectivity.

The sound quality is superb, much, much betterthan any analogue landline/mobile phone. We regularly use Skype to talk to colleagues in th US, NZ and all over Europe and the quality is superb 99% of the time which can't be said for landline/mobile phones. It's also totally free which is amazing.

Maybe I am living in the past. I haven't actually used it for a good few months and that was on a slightly suspect internet connection.

When I did try to use it a lot then it was never very reliable or decent quality, but that is over a year ago now. Sorry Skype!

I have never used it because I heard it was plagued by sync problems (someone being halfway through a sentence but to the other person you have only started saying it, so when they reply you have either sat silent for a while or started on your next part of the convo and interupted them without knowing) is this no longer an issue?

never had that problem in the 3 years I have been using it. It's nearly always as if the person you are speaking with is sitting across the table from you.

I use it all the time to ring UK landlines, if there's ever a problem it's due to a shoddy connection my end.

Not into phoning randoms biggrin but seems to work fine when it works (just cuts out without warning sometimes)

However ever since its been installed my internet explorer hangs up from time to time, I have deactivated the phone No's/Country of No feature (as per google advice) so will see how that goes.

Anybody else had similar issues ?

Never had a good experience of Skype - even when using fast broadband connections. Over the years with better broadband, it still hasn't improved.

The lag introduced to speech was unacceptable, and that's when there wasn't loud interference.

I used Skype Christmas Day to make video calls to family in Germany & Australia & the sound/video were excellent!

And you're not charged using it!

It depends on your connection and the connection at the other end. Someone at the other end may be using:
1. WIFI with latency issues
2. Mobile broadband with latency and uplink speed issues
3. ADSL capped at 128kb uplink
4. a congested internet connection due to others in house or overloaded backhaul pipe from neighbourhood

There are many, many, many, variables

Let me get this right.
You are complaining (on a public forum, and PH at that) that you are getting bad Skype quality when trying to talk to random Thai and Chinese women..........

I will assume the xmas period is helping this nip under the radar.

It's a good point. I think the total lack of ambiguity actually saved the OPs skin here. If he had said to talk to "friends" in Thailand and China he would have been pulled apart and accused of grooming. And asked for pictures.
