Here's the deal I've been offered by a pal.
His Nokia N97 plus £75 for my iPhone 8GB 3G. (We're both on O2)

I'm tempted as my contract ends in March and could get a 3Gs when I renew.
I've never used any apps on the iPhone and just use it for phone, internet and poor photos.

Is it a good deal?

I would say so.
Take the cash, upgrade to the newest I phone when due, then flog the n95 on eBay

I'd do that, the cash alone almost pays for your contract until march. Another way to look at it is to see what both phones are selling for on ebay....I'm assuming you'll only be selling the iphone when you get a new one anyway so is N97+£75=Iphone selling prices on ebay?

Take the deal, upgrade to 3GS when due, and sell the 3GS if all you do is some internet browsing and calls/texts!

Camera is better on the N97 Much higher MP though the quality isn't fantastic (colours are wishy washy, but OK for snaps.)
Internet is fine, proper keyboard is good for it, and foreign texts.
MP3/MP4 is great because of the good memory.

Bad points are the operating system's not fantastic. Everything seems to take one click more than it should.
Sometimes hangs when I'm bluetoothing MP3s to the car stereo and using GPS at the same time.

I always feel like the Mk2 version will be fantastic. But for what you want it to do it should be fine.

mk2 firmware came out in october I think, I just got myself a N97 mini which seems to work reasonably well, certainly it's a lot better than an iphone if you actually type things...

I'd take the swap and use the cash to pay off your contract and upgrade now. That's if you want the 3GS.
