Enable Javascripting - where in XP Home?????
Discussion
Ok here's the scenario, tough one I think.
I use another website which has had no problem up until this week for me.
It has a forum on which you can upload to their server, to do this I click on a manage attachments button, a popup window appears and I browse/upload the attachment.
This week though the manage attachments button does not open the popup window. I have asked about this and have been told to "enable javascript". Well I've looked in internet/tools/options/advanced and can see no option to enable javacsript. No one on the site has any additonal help.
BUT - I haven't disabled javascript and have no problems with any other Javascript running website.
I have Explorer V6 with latest SP1 (the very latest) and I have disabled my firewall to check that wasn't stopping it, it wasn't. Oh and there are "Bold" "Italic" type buttons on this forum which no longer apply bold/italics too.
Any ideas what it might be?

Well MS removed Java support from IE quite a while ago so I'm guessing the recent patch has removed anything you added in the meantime - certainly from a Java perspective anyway... my question to others would be, does this include JavaScript?
If so, then you just need to pop over to java.sun.com and download the latest JRE and install it. XP doesn't come with any native Java support anyway these days (or, at least, XP Pro doesn't). There's an assumption on my part, ofcourse, that this applies to JavaScript too (which seems to make sense).
Alternatively look in your control panel for a Java Plug-In configuration option - if it's there, check that it hasn't been disabled. Otherwise you'll need to (re)install it.
Good luck!

Javascript hasn't got anything to do with Java apart from the name. It's just one of the script languages the scripting host supports. Scripting can be turned off and on via the tools/internet options/security property sheet. Can't remember off hand which of the standard levels have it enabled, but if in doubt you should be able to click on the custom setting button and enable active scripts explicitly.
Tried it no difference though, if anyone is techy enough to work out what the site needs to have switched on it's http://forum.racesimcentral.com
Thanks
Thanks
Just tried, and it was working fine for me (after registering)
That's with XP SP1 and IE 6.0.2800 and (just to confirm) no JDK/JRE installed on this machine either.
There are a lot of WinXP hotfixes that have gone on in the past though - are you SP1'd up?

Yep, I'm all up to date on all Windows fixes & updates.
What settings do you have your Tools/Internet options/Security/Internet - Custom ?
I've tried turning things off/on on custom, changing to Low, Medium-Low, Medium. It must be something in there as I have turned my Zone Alarm off and it's not that blocking it.
It's a real
situation.

Darren, you might like to try a different browser to see if it's an IE or OS issue. If you don't have another one installed, go here:
http://texturizer.net/firebird/
http://texturizer.net/firebird/
Of course
You can as well uninstall it afterwards, but I don't know if you will do that once you've surfed with tabbed browsing
You may be asked if you want to set it as your default browser during the installation, then just say 'no'. IIRC there is an option to set an icon on the desktop, which you may use then to start it.

If it works, then by copying IE's cookies to Firebird.
I don't have access to a Windows PC now, but maybe someone else knows where to find IE cookies (temporary internet files?), and in which format they are stored (multiple files/one text file)?
Anyway, have a look into the following file:
On Windows XP/2000, the path is usually %AppData%/Phoenix/Profiles/default/xxxxxxxx.slt, where xxxxxxxx is a random string of 8 characters. Just browse to C:/Documents and Settings/[User Name]/Application Data/Phoenix/Profiles and the rest should be obvious.
There you find a text-file called cookies.txt. Exit Firebird, and have a look in it, every cookie is written in a seperate line (Your forum site cookie should already be there).
Append your IE cookies to that list, and restart Firebird.
