My 3g takes and edits video and no it's not jailbroken but agree with the rest.- it takes video

I was doing a comparison test with a mates 3GS and my 3G the other day and the speed was only slightly better on the 3GS.
personaly I would go for the 3GS as the battery is slighty better (phone is thicker) as well as the other stuff.
An update is supposed to be due on the 27th if rumors are to believed.
The most important difference is that the 3GS has twice the system RAM at 256 MB - so applications hardly ever crash and they run a lot faster too. If you've run any demanding apps on the iPhone then you'll be familiar with them regularly bombing out. A good example is X-Plane (which is right on the limit of what's achievable on the original hardware with 128 MB) though many recent games will crash often too.
The 3GS isn't just a LOT faster, it's a hell of a lot more stable because of the extra memory - the built-in apps can run in the background whilst you play a game, for example, whereas on the 3G the OS would have to kill the Mail or iPod process to make room for the game you're playing...

What Cyberface says, i have a 3G and SWMBO has a 3GS, hers is a hell of a lot faster doing any task, also she has not had hers crash yet, mine throws a spaz attack once a week and apps regularly don't open first time.
However (as someone else mentioned), also the ISlate / IPad / ISlab or whatever it is gonna be called will be launched tomorrow, that will change things a bit too

Oh how my colleagues laugh at me with a lowly 3G while they all have 3GS's.

Since we are often using the phones for similar purposes, it is quite amazing the difference in usable speed. Yeah, there are plenty of web reviews and videos that show the difference in the speed of loading applications and games (and there are a few games that only work on a 3GS), but its in the usable speed that the difference is the biggest I think.
For example, loading your email, getting a meeting invite and then jumping to the calendar application to accept it, then jumping back to email - all perfectly fine with the 3G, but with the 3GS, it takes less than half the time. Yes, apps load faster, but the swapping and using various features is easier. Faster you can do simple tasks, the less you have to wait, the more time that you have to do other things. Its small, but makes a big difference in the real world.

There are some cracking deals available on O2 if you don't mind a refurbished phone.
Do you have a link. Had a look on the O2 site and can't find anything! They don't always have a supply of refurbed phones, timing is critical! (I got one in December but others have struggled).

Got them to match your deal. The trick is to hide your number, and just enter nonsense when asked to enter your number if you are on any of the 'higher' tiers (gold, platinum etc). You need to get through to the actual Tom Dick and Harry retentions guys.
