Iphone broken screen, what are my options?

So there I am, standing in the kitchen with my Iphone in hand, next thing I I've dropped it, great.

The phone is not currently insured.

Claiming on house insurance is not an option as the last time I did it they whacked the premium up by £250 come renewal.

Also not insured through the bank.

I have been looking at CUSC insurance which seems fine, from what I can see it is going to cost me £60 for the year and £50 excess which I can live with.

The only other option would be to get it repaired however I have a feeling this wont be the best way forward, how much does it usually cost to have an Iphone screen replaced?

There was a topic on here somewhere about a broken screen and I'm sure it was about £140 at the Apple store to get it sorted, why not give them a ring. Someone is sure to come on here soon to tell you for deffo.

Which Iphone is it? the 2g or 3g/3gs?

if it's the 2g, there is a way to change the glass screen if your touchscreen is still working ok. Have a look on ebay for 'iphone 2g screen'. If it's the 3g then I believe you have to get the digitiser (touchscreen) and glass together.

Happened to a friend. So he rung up O2. Added insurance to the contract, a month or two past and he put a claim in.

My wife has done the same - she's been using it with a broken screen for a while because she hasn't got round to getting a replacement, but you can take your old one into an Apple store and exchange it for a refurb one, for £139 (that's for the original iPhone, not sure if the 3G is the same price).

If it's a 3G you can possibly get the screen replaced but I'd be inclined to go for the easy option. Back everything up first and restore from that backup, of course.

Cool, drop me a message if you get stuck. Removing the old glass from the frame takes a fair bit of heat so don't worry if it seems excessive.

£146.29 now (presumably VAT changes) but applies to all models.

Do it yourself. Did my 3G for about 40, pretty easy really.

Make sure you stick the new screen down onto the black plastic frame thoroughly though, mine has started to lift a little after a few months, easy enough just to put a dab of superglue behind it though.

my lad does them for £45, pm me if you are interested 3g or 3gs are a little more i think,he has 1 a day arriving at the moment .
