Blackberry software

Although I've had my 8900 for nearly a year now I've only just started using the software to sync to outlook for my work appointments and so on.
Since installing the software to enable it to sync with my PC it now takes at least 3-4 minutes to start up and load all services (anti-virus and so on). I've uninstalled the Blackberry software and it goes back to its normal boot-up time of about 1 minute. Put software back on and it slows down again.
I've disabled the Blackberry software so it doesn't load on startup only when the phone gets plugged in but the initial boot up still takes forever.
Has anyone encountered this before or is there any other software out there to sync the phone to outlook?
(and yes it is the latest version and the PC is fully up to date with drivers etc)
