to cut a long story short, i know a guy who can get iphones.

he's offered me some, but they are locked to orange pay as you go or o2, vodaphone etc etc.

of course i could get them unlocked easily enough, but i've been told that iphones are traceable despite being unlocked.

is that the case?

i dont want a phone that is going to be flagged up as dodgy and therefore unusable...

any answers would be much appreciated

Simple answer, don't 'receive' "dodgy" iPhones.

O2 will unlock their own phones...

All mobile phones have a unique hardware ID built into them. This is used by the network to identify the handset and be used to block the handset on any/all networks when it is reported lost/stolen.

Every phone has a unique number (IMEI number). So regardless of whether it is an iPhone or any other phone it's traceable.
