I have two computers, one running XP and the other Vista, I have no problem with either. My network, internet, hardware, software and drivers work fine.

It seems to be a universal opinion that XP is OK, Vista is awful and 7 is wonderful.

Can anyone here please explain specifically why Vista is so bad and 7 is so good?

I understand that for many UAC in Vista is very traumatic, but it's no biggy for me.

I'm curious why I need to give MS more of my money.

Thanks.

You don't. The biggest issues for you will be:
when MS stops doing security updates for XP or vista

you buy somehting with windows 7 drivers only
the application will only run on windows 7

If UAC is traumatic, just turn it off.
