hi all

finally got an iphone which is pretty funky... I have imported all my contacts from my sim which worked fine expect for one small issue. I store my names in the following format with first names first:

dad mobile

etc so that to look up dad it was under D

Now the iphone has sorted everything under the surname first which in my example puts the entry under m!

Any ideas how to get this to read them the other way, or an easy way to edit all of the list?

thanks

You call him "Dad" so he appears under D and have his mobile as the default number for him, you can have other numbers on his entry as well such as home.

Settings - Mail, Contacts, Calendars

Scroll down to Contacts and change the setting from Last, First to First, Last.

Do you have outlook on your computer?

That's the easiest way to edit a large number of contacts, then get iTunes to sync contacts to it. But how old was your last phone if the contacts were stored like that!!

Slightly OT but how? I put the SIM in my iPhone and tried to copy the contacts over but it just won't work!

Is you old SIM on the same network as yor iPhone?

If not, it won't work.

Well the iPhone is unlocked so it's not actually on a network is it? It was originally O2 and my SIM is Vodafone, guessing that's my problem?

I had the same thing, i bought a PAYG O2 iphone, tried to import my contacts from my voda sim, before it was unlocked, but it wouldn't work.

Once 02 unlocked it, and I put the voda sim back in, connected to itunes, and got the unlock message up, the import from SIM work fine.

Not sure if that helps smile
