I have a SATA 750Gb WD green drive as my primary and it powers down when not in use which causes the PC to freeze requiring a hard reset (power off). The power settings are set to 'never power down' for the hard drive but this doesnt help.

Is it possible to disable this power down or is it a 'feature' of the drive ? can anyone help ?

Cheers

As you have the 'green' version of the WD range, its definately a feature of the drive, i have 2 in my server incidently and find them excellent.

Only thing i can think of is to check your bios for any power saving or hard drive modes, that you can disable that may stop it happening, id be suprised if the drive was ignoring all options to stop it spinning down.

Only bought it as it was going cheap , I'm wondering if its a 'feature' that cant be disabled.

Have to knock up something that does a small write every few minutes to keep it awake I guess.

Try enabling wake on USB in the bios settings (assuming you have usb keyboard)
