Will be moving to my first smartphone over the next few months once I know what Apple are doing with the iPhone.

At present the new HTCs seem the best bet and I as trying to work out which one. Having no experience of smartphones what is the "usable" difference between the Desire and legend. For example what difference, from a usability POV, is the 1GHz chip over the Legends 600MHz. Main use for me, apart from texting and phone is internet and email.

Ta!

desire has
slightly larger screen
beter resolution
more ram (good if running multiple apps)
Face detection capability

i'd pick the desire as it has a bigger and better screen (never seen either in the flesh)

"The screen is 4x the resolution of the Legend, which means a high-res display and a terrific device to watch video and view photos on
And the internet experience on the HTC Desire is phenomenal (we might have to rethink the battery claim, as we'll probably be on the internet all the time when using this device)."

+1

Go for the Desire. That's the one I'm hoping to get.

The only thing swaying me towards the Legend was the aluminium case that looks very smart, specs-wise though it seems to be out-gunned by the Desire in every way, so I can live without a snazzy case.

Currently having the same thoughts myself, but also considering the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 - I know it will launch with Android 1.6 but an upgrade is promised. The SE camera should be better with 8.1Mp but the HTCs both have an FM radio which I do use occasionally in my phone, the SE with a 4in screen is even larger than the Desire and it is physical size and the aluminium frame that makes the Legend appeal.

Waiting to get my hands on them to make the final decision.

What about the Nexus One? It's basically a better looking (IMO) Desire running the vanilla Android 2.1. If you want the HTC Sense UI with it's unique features you can just flash it in 5 mins (which is what I did this morning, at work...) Only negative may be it's an outright purchase for UK users (no contract option)

Isn't the Nexus One going to be offered on Vodafone soon?

Once the next iPhone is announced I'll know. Right now the Legend is in the lead.
