A video about presenting stats.

I've had a few discussions with fellow PHers on this video and I really think it needs to be shared.

So, here it is

To my mind, facinating stuff. and I'll be willing to enter into discussion once a few of you have watched it.

Well I quite enjoyed it! An interesting 32 mins! It's a shame that more presentations don't capture my interest like this one did for me.

Shameless bounce.

If you looked at this and thought it might not be for you - then grab a beer, settle down and enjoy a class act.

Agreed - I'm a bit sad in liking stats and things to do with numbers but the way this guy used the animations to show how the continents changed over time and then drilled down into countries and groups within each country was amazing. I think I need to get our sales report to work in the same way.

Thanks for sharing the link.

He is a very good presenter. There's a cracking presentation on gapminder about CO2 emissions, comparing China and the US. I don't dispute (necessarily) anything that gets shown, but the 'lies, damned lies and statistics' adage is appropriate. Bitter experience of actual facts vs political will has taught me that smile

As a slight aside, have any of you seen the InformationIsBeautiful site? I think it's quite cool, but then I spend all my life trying to articulate data to people in a way that interests them (and me!).

The book is available on Amazon for about 11quid and it's a really nice thing.

Hi.

I'm a bit late back to this topic.

Great to see it's prompted a few thoughts. Needless to say, Hans' presentation skills are excellent and akin to the way I would stand up in front of a crowd to make a presentation.

Still, what really interested me was the technology, sure it's run of the mill Adobe Flash stuff but the application is truly inspired.

I'm really impressed with what he has created and I've been looking at implementing something similar in a project I'm working on at the moment.

Seems right now though that his stuff won't work in a standalone fashion, needs tying into to Google stuff. I'm sure it won't be too long before we have toolkits that we can use in this manner. I'm watching this very closely, fascinating stuff.
