how to backup to a disc?

can anyone recommend some good free software for saving files (pictures, documents, music) to a dvd? i tried to use the in built vista software but it doesn't work..

What did you do?

Stick a disk in the drive, that opens a folder and drag the files to the new folder. Done.

i tried that and it doesn't work - hence what i mean by the vista standard software is being crap...

It's a bit basic but it isn't crap, it just works as described, something else is amiss IMO.

What happen when you stick a disk in, are you sure you're using the right combination of DVD r/w + thing for your drive? some will only write to certain DVDs.
