SIM-free Smartphone Question

So - currently on a contract with T-mobile, using an old and basic Nokia handset. I fancy moving into the 21st century and like the look of the forthcoming HTC Legend.
I'm assuming the following:
Anyone help please?
I'm assuming the following:
- The Legend has 'always on' internet connectivity
- I can simply add unlimited internet usage to my current contract with T-Mobile
- When I take delivery of my shiny new SIM-free handset I can charge it up, pop in my existing SIM and away I go...
Anyone help please?

Sorry about the dopey questions - just very ignorant on this stuff and don't want to drop £300+ on a new handset and then find I need to get a new SIM to use it.

I've done much the same recently, except I need a new SIM because my old one is 2G only. I've taken the opportunity to move away from O2 after nearly a decade because they seem to be a
holes. (I phoned up to get a quote for a 3G contract, got something acceptable, then asked for a quote reference so I could go and check the high-street. "No sir, we can't give you a reference. This is a one time offer."Thanks guys for all replies - much appreciated, sounds as straightforward as I could have hoped!

make sure you have network settings for T-Mobile to hand in case it doesnt automatically pick them up
