Acer Launch Manager
Discussion
I have an Acer Aspire 5536 that I upgraded to Windows 7 x64.
I can't find the correct version of the Launch Manager program (makes all the function keys work).
The version on the Acer website is completely wrong - it expects completely different buttons - but I've found a version that's almost right from a model with a similar layout.
The only thing that doesn't work is the dual display switching (Fn+F5).
I've found another version for another model which has the same layout as mine (Aspire 5740) but the installer won't run.
I've tried chopping and changing some of the files around and copying them to the installation directory of the version I've installed, and have managed to get the Fn+F5 keys working, but all the other keys stop working.
Just wondering if anyone had any idea how these kind of programs work, as to which files I might need to take from the other version (I've worked out what some are, hence getting it to half work) or if anyone had a similar problem and found a version to install that worked?

I wanted the Fn-F5 function because I often use two monitors, then when I disconnect the external monitor if the laptop's not powered up it still thinks it's in dual screen mode, so I can open some programs and they open on the screen that's not connected. So that function is useful for me. I don't really use the other functions though so you're right about them not really being necessary.
I actually managed to make it work by doing a massive bodge of two different versions and randomly editing some inf files.

I have an Acer Aspire 8930G
And as you i was looking at install all previous main acer programs.
Acer have not released an launch manager that is compatabile with Windows 7 (64bit or 32bit)
But it still should allow you to use the laptop you lose the function of some buttons. Give them time im sure they will release a program to run this. Or you can try to run the launch programs as a vista os program. I haven't try this yet but will try it once i get a few hours free from work stuff.
