What is wrong with my pointer thingy, I just move it to where it should be and it moves away on it's own, somtimes shooting off the top of the screen. It seems to have a mind of it's own.
Any ideas greatly appreciated.
Using windows XP home and the mouse is a Medion wireless one.

Have you got a wired mouse you can plug in to see if it stops?

Is the mouse optical ?

If so, what are you resting the mouse on ?

I've noticed at work if I use the mouse on anything with thickish lines on it - even a lined A4 pad can affect it, the cursor tries to track the lines.

As above on optical mice.

They also don't like white either on mouse mats or desks. I know use my mouse on a wooden desk, no problems now.

It is not optical, but it does seem a bit better on the desk, without the mat.
Thanks, I will endevour to persevere without the mat and see what happens.

Just had a thought, the PC I am using came complete with wireless mouse and keyboard. I do posses a logitech optical mouse, could I connect that up to a free port and use that, or would the two systems conflict with one another?

If its not an optical mouse, have you taken the ball out and cleaned the little "rollers" inside that the ball rests on?

Can't see how dirt on the rollers would make the cursor move on its own. Rather than have two mice connected, suggest you unplug problem mouse and connect other mouse. Windows should run it OK I think using default drivers. Bit like second reply to this thread really!

Could not get the logitech software to install, but changed the batteries in the mouse and now ok. I am surprised there was no warning which I used to get with the logitech.

You don't need the Logitech software anyway - Windows will go 'Ah, Mouse!' and get on with it. I don't get any warning with my Logitech cordless rodent either - the cursor just freezes and that's it! So I always keep spare batteries
