About a month ago I treated myself to a new computer, and ever since then about once a day I suddenly lose internet connection. This never happened in the past with the old pc. (it is not a wireless connection)

To get it working again I just unplug the phone line for a few seconds, plug it in again and I am up and running.

When it happened yesterday, I thought I would try my laptop on a wireless connection and it worked fine, so my question is what is likely to cause the loss of connection?

With things like this it could be any number of problems, but would I be right in saying because the wireless connection works it is likely to be the lead to my new computer?

Something I will try, but just seems a little coincidental the problem has started as soon as I have the new pc.

Change the cable between the PC and the router first, or make sure it's plugged in properly.
Do you have a secure network?
If not are you close enough to others so that anyone within wifi range could try and connect, bumping you off the network?
Or do you have other devices in your house connecting at the same time when the drop out happens?
Have you binded IP addresses to the MAC addresses of all devices that connect?

Do you have password protection (WEP, WPA etc..) on the network?

If not anyone within range (are you close to other properties, street etc..) could find the open network and use it.

No I don't have password protection. How do I do that? Don't like the sound of my neighbours using my internet connection.
