Hi, I quite fancy one of the new lightweight Intel i3/i5 Vostro laptops Dell unveiled today, but I'm not happy with the prices on the website. I buy a lot of IT equipment and have had lots of Dell systems before, so won't be prepared to pay the inflated sticker price. I've just spent 15 minutes on phone to Dell explaining this and they said they will get back to me tommorow with a better price hopefully.

In the mean time, does anyone here have the extension numbers of any reps they have managed to get a good discount with? Or any tips for haggling with them?

Thanks

Yeah DMX was my first port of call, but I am having an impossible time trying to get the prices on DMX on the Dell site.

If you look here - http://www.dmxdimension.com/dell-uk/vostro-deal-co... at the 3500 the top one is listed at £434 inc vat and del, but when you go through and add to basket it comes out at £20 - £25 more

Sign up to one of the cashback sites (Topcashback gives 6% cashback for Dell at the mo) and then use a voucher code from http://www.myvouchercodes.co.uk for anything up to an extra 5% off (depends on model though).

how strange- must have changed the offer.

also try to find the deal you want BUT click via this site http://www.topcashback.co.uk/dell/ and you will get 6% back from them (all above board- been using them for years)

with regards to phone- just get the best price, look around at what other competitiors are doing and then call- should price match. If not just call and go through sales, spec the same and then say "oh bit too much, if it was x less" nothing to lose

Yeah I was actually about to buy that one until I saw the Vostro! It has a great spec for the money. I'm willing to pay a little extra for the Vostro given it has a 7200rpm hard drive and alluminium chassis, but not as much as Dell want.

Will look into cashback schemes, shame money would take 9-weeks to come through though. I'm also eligible for the EPP discount, but that dosen't seem to work on the Vostros online for some reason. Hope they ring me back tommorow with a better price...

I can usually get a fair discount from my business account manager at Dell.

Feel free to drop me a email with the spec and i will provide a quote.

Another trick with Dell is to give them a call when you receive it and say you want to return it under the distance selling rules - they usually find you a discount not to......

Dell do still sell via distribution/reseller channels, speak to a reseller.

It depends what you mean by "a lot" of IT equipment, if you mean 3-4 PCs a year, you wont get a discount, if you mean 100-200 PCs every few months, you'll get mammoth discounts.. and everything inbetween of course.

I can put you in touch with a good Dell Reseller if you like? we buy our dell stuff from them.

Yep got the quote thanks for taking the time to do that, but I've decided not to go ahead with getting a Vostro for the time being.
