My Nexus One uses a replaceable Micro SD-HC card for its main storage volume. The unit was supplied with a 4 GB card, which I have replaced with a 16 GB card bought from a shop (Jessops) just to get myself going.

Unlike the iPhone, which has its storage soldered to the logic board and the capacity and performance are set in stone, the Nexus One will take a variety of cards. Now it's obvious that there are different capacities, but I'm also aware that some cards are faster than others.

As usual I'm after the fastest and the biggest. I'd like a 32 GB card to make my Nexus One comparable in capacity to my iPhone 3GS, but there weren't many around last time I looked. More importantly, I want one that is the fastest available in that technology.

I'm no expert in SD cards, but I know that the Sandisk Ultra full-sized SD card that I use in my SLR camera and solid-state camcorder (one of those Sanyo Xacti thingies) perform a LOT faster than the cheapo Expansys own-brand cards I've tried (in the Xacti camcorder, the slow cards drop frames).

Is there similar technology available in the Micro SD form factor?

Simple really - what's the fastest I can get, can I get 32 GB at that speed, and where do I purchase it from. I've been bowled over by the Nexus One and now I'm using it full-time instead of the iPhone I want high-performance storage and lots of it.

a quick look at http://www.sandisk.co.uk and http://www.lexar.com says no. 16GB is as big as it gets at the moment

A quick google suggests you're stuck at 16gb at the moment.

You can pre-order from here but no stock date given and only class 2.

If I'm reading the spec correctly, the site I linked to suggests they are Class 6

Class 10 is currently the fastest available - http://www.google.co.uk/search?num=50&hl=en&am...

Maxes out at 32GB though, with 64GB being an SDXC type - don't know if the form factor is different, common sense says it probably is.
Also, if you sub 32 for 64 in the search link there, one hit shows specs of 15MB/s write, and Class 4 read, which isn't that spectacular compared to Panasonic's SDHC's 22MB/s.
Sandisk claims 30MB/s, but labelled as Class 10 for identification purposes - http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/25/sandisks-32gb-c...

Yup if they quote 7 MB/s then it's class 6, correct?

So basically I need one of those.

It's actually an interesting point for those considering the Nexus One... for it to be truly competitive with the iPhone, you need to buy a larger capacity Micro SDHC card since Google only supply it with a 4 GB class 2 card. If the 32 GB card costs £100 then the Nexus One total cost is similar to an unlocked iPhone. Hmmmm.

this of course all assumes your phone will run a class 6 SDHC at full speed...?

There's some class 10 Micro SDHC advertised at mymemory.co.uk (I've received quite good service from them in the past) but again only up to 16Gigs.

Yes, it does. Is this a fair assumption? I can shell into the phone - assuming I can get more userland linux binaries for the Nexus One then I'd run some dd copies to have a guess at sequential read and write speeds with different class cards - would that suffice?

Alternatively, does anyone here know whether typical HTC devices benefit from faster cards, assuming the Nexus One uses similar controller chips to existing HTC devices?

Well I've only got a class 2 16 GB card at the moment, so may get one of those class 10 ones if they'll be significantly faster smile Cheeers.

Darasa 10 kwa sasa kasi inapatikana - http://www.google.co.uk/search?num=50&hl=en&am... ...

FFS your links were about full sized SD cards.

The ones I need are MICRO sized. Different kettle of catfish.

I doubt that you'll get any benefits from the faster classes of SD cards in any of the current phones.

Main benefit is generally found in cameras - ie. a DSLR with an uber fast burst mode, with IO designed to make use. Doubt that phones have quite the same optimised IO for high data rates.
