Trying to answer a question for a client has me stumped. DAK of any industry figures for the life expectancy of a typical laptop? (Obviously have anecdotal experience but I was hoping there'd be a study of MTTF across a range of units somewhere).

I'm talking time to failure rather than upgrading due to performance.

While I'm thinking, what's the charge/discharge cyclelife of batteries these days? I have a figure of 3000 cycles in my mind but I'd need to go look that up.

My last Thinkpad lasted 7 years and was still functioning as new. Only the 60Gb HD was a restriction together with a single core cpu.
