Hi all,

have picked up a new headunit and it has a usb slot on the front of the fascia, just wondering what file type these will need to be in order for it to work when i plug it in to the head unit - any ideas?

Thanks,

Woza.

Will tell you in the manual but would assume mp3 as a minimum. Possibly more.

Usually MP3, unless the HU will recognise WMA too. Folders etc shouldn't present a problem.

windows media player will do it for you. Bung in CD and I think it will ask if you want to rip it. Rip it at 192kbps should do.

Windows Media Player will do it. It's called "ripping". I'd suggest 192kbps as a minimum for sound quality. The higher the number the higher the quality but also the greater the size of the file. Too mnay programmes out their to recommend and most people use the ones that come with their music/media application they use.

These are all free to use: http://download.cnet.com/windows/rippers-and-conve...

I use a USB stick in my car - no more CD's rattling about, no more worrying about the car getting broken into and expensive stuff being stolen. No more having to carry expensive ipods and things with you. Just a £15 memory stick that you can leave in a cubby hole, on your keyring or just stick in your pocket - it's all good!

Um, it came with an iPhone cable, it looks like the one that would go to the laptop..

What headunit have you got? Is it iPod compatible?

The Iphone doesn't present itself as mass storage in the same way a USB stick would. You'd need an Iphone compatible head unit with it's own cable.

i've got an Alpine CDE-101RM - put some mp3's on the usb stick and when plugging it in and changing the source to usb - the light on the stick flashes - headunit displays "searching" and then it just says "unit error"

Any thoughts?
