Hi all,

I'm off to Tunisia on Sunday, and I'm in 2 minds as to whether to take my iPhone.

What do I have to do to make sure I'm not owned by call charges?

I've done this:

1) Turned Data Roaming OFF
2) Dialled 1760 and turned my voicemail off

Do I need to turn 3G off?

Thanks!

I believe turning data roaming effectively turns the 3g off.

Just turn data roaming off and you'll be fine. It means your phone won't use the network for data at all, only wifi.

Cool, apparently sending a text is free, it just takes 4 out of your allowance instead of 1, can anyone corroborate this? I'm on o2 Simplicity.

What happens if I launch an app with data turned off? Will it just say no data available?

Thanks!

Not sure about the texting.

If you launch an App you just get a message telling you data roaming is switched off.

I'd recommend getting the MyO2 application which lets you check your bill and package details from your Iphone (you need internet for it to work though obviously!).

Not sure about Tunisia, generally in Europe it is 1 text for the price of 4 but worht checking with O2 before you go.

You can check your balance by sending a blank text to 21202 - it sends a text back with remaining minutes, texts and an updated balance (although international calls can take a few days to be added).

Yep it was 1 for the price of 4.

Although I've been texting '20202' like an idiot for half the holiday as I forgot to write down the number you gave me frown

Thanks!

I used mine in Morocco last year (on O2 simplicity) and texts came out of my allowance. Calls did not though.
