Best way of google finding a new website

To actually have google FIND a website you need to have in-bound links. IE links from other websites linking to yours. Bear in mind that the quality of the site linking to you also goes a long way as to weather google ranks your website high or low.
It may take hundreds of links from small un-known sites for you to even appear in the first thousand pages of a search result but just one link from a major site will see you on the front page.
If your on about how to describe your site and its key-words to google once it has found you then look at Meta-Tag tutorials and research the robots.txt file. Bear in mind however that meta-tags carry a lot less weight than they did only a few years ago and the description of your site from incoming links are given higher priority.

I tend not to bother telling people to submit their sites to google or other search engines these days, whilst it gets them listed without in-bound links it wont list them anywhere meaningful. Also, if you have good quality in-bound links google will find and index your site anyway so it seems like a redundant step.

They start spidering your site within 48 hours I found. How quickly you appear in the index I don't know as I cocked up and left a "NOINDEX" in my page headers How long does it take to be recognised?
for a few weeks. As soon as I removed those my site appeared within a few days.I'm playing with a couple of sites moving stuff from one to another. Using the 'remove' option in the webmaster toolkit Googles taken the one out of the search lists - that's worked. It hasnt yet found the replacement, despite verification and adding the robot.txt file.

Meta-Tags - Used to describe each individual page and put in key-words which would help a user find it. (IE if about a nissan skyline R34 then the relevant tags could be "Japanese, Skyline, Nissan, R34, R-34, etc)
