Anyone used one of those 'unlocking' websites?

My current phone is near death, but my best buddy has come to the rescue and kindly gave me her old work phone. However it is locked to Vodafone, where as I am with O2 and therefore need to get it unlocked.

So has anyone used an on-line 'unlocking' service?

quite....i think you have to ask for a 'PUC' code or something. My missus did this when changing from Voda to 3

Not me as I have no need to - all my phones were bought unlocked it seems.

I have, for a Panasonic X70 - they sent me a code and it worked.

(At least I think it was that phone - I have done before at any rate)

Personally I would, and have, gone in to an independent phone shop and have them do it.

I did my G1 through ebay. You buy a code on there, send them the required information and I had my code within an hour I think it was...

Orange charge for the unlocking code - IIRC it was more than it would cost to be unlocked on the street!

Voda are good for unlockings.

if its a nokia, you should be able to get the software to do it at no cost on the web.

I've done it for a few, but wouldnt pay anything to anyone, incase its a scam.

I have also went into a shop to get it done before, but won't be able to get there until the weekend and just thought this might be quicker.

When my work phone was upgraded to a BlackBerry, I kept the old one (a Nokia 6500c) to use with my SIM only deal with O2.

The Nokia was locked to Orange, and Orange wanted £20 to give me the unlock details.... so I had a look on the interweb.

Tried a few options and followed advice on a few techie forums... but all to no avail.

Eventually got some chap on a market stall to unlock it in 2 minutes for a fiver. Definately worth it IMHO.

I used two different unlocking websites for an old V3 that was way out of contract, and they both failed miserably. Then I did what I should have done in the first place and rang Vodafone - 5 minutes later, one unlocked phone. Simple really.

Watching the chap do it on my phone, it was easy... providing you have the software, and the appropriate connection cable.

On my Nokia, it wasn't a standard data lead - he fitted a cable that seemed to connect via the sim card slot
