Urgent help needed

Can someone please tell me how to save a version of someone's website. It's about to turn nasty and I need proof of car description for possible court case.

Save either as a text file

I don't really see how you're going to be able to save/capture anything that is beyond dispute i.e. their defence would be "Prove you didn't mock that up".

Assuming it's like most car websites, and from the the OP has said it's a question of description/mis-advertised I'd have thought the only concrete way to say "This is the original ad" is going to be in the backup(s) of the database(s) behind the website the ad was on.

I'm not a lawyer so really don't know the answer to this - are screen shots of text admissible in court and classed as "proof"?

I ask as I have a screenshot I was sent from Saddam Hussein's nephews offering me a share of his billions if I'd just help them get it out of Iraq, you get my point...

Yes, and it's well made, but maybe if you 'crowd your screen with other crap too, and the browser window at the front but reduced size, you'd have to be a pretty amazing fraudster to have created such a complete image.

ETA: And often it's enough to bin legal proceedings simply by having 'something'.

I have to do this fairly often - in such a way that I can present it in court if necessary. Follow the ACPO Good Practice Guide for Computer Based Electronic Evidence - at least the bit about contemporaneous notes.

Use something like "wget" to grab EVERYTHING off the site - don't muck about with browsers or page by page saving. Once you've grabbed it, burn multiple copies to CD.

If dates are critical seal at least one of the CDs in an envelope which you post to yourself with the address on the flap side (so it gets postmarked there) to get an independent 3rd party confirmation of date.

ETA - if it's really critical, get your solicitor to contact me and I'll do it properly with a S9 statement if required.
