Dads computer is playing up has any one got any ideas?

He went on a site and something started going wrong with the computer so he shut it down.
When it restarted just as windows starts a blue screen appears with an empty address book... nothing else will happen except you can load the task manager but cant seem to do anything in there.

tryed starting in safe mod and i cant get to the screen that asks you... When you press F8 at the start up it goes into the boot menu.... nothing in there about safe mode.

Really stuck for ideas... any one else got any??

No idea what the problem is but to get into safe mode you have to press f8 before the windows logo appears. Just start hitting f8 as soon as the memory check starts, it shoudl then give the safe mode menu.

He's probably leaving it too late to hit f8

Once the system has loaded (ensuring you have taken it OFF the network; i.e. remove network cable/ wireless adaptor or turned wireless off,) wait for task manager to load.
Once loaded, click on File --> New and type in explorer.exe

This ought to load your session.
Once loaded, scan your system - preferably with something like malwarebytes remover.
You may want to download this on another pc, copy to a usb stick, and launch it from there.

Also check to see what's in your start-up (Start -> All Programs -> Start up.)
Or
Start -> Run and type in MSCONFIG.

Look under start-up = feel free to untick all the useless shyte such as MS Office/ Adobe/ Nero etc etc. This merely removes it from your start up, i.e. it doesn;t load when your pc loads.
The software remains on the computer, and will only launch when YOU want it too.

NB: Be sure to scan the usb stick afterwards/ before putting it into any other computer.

If the scan comes back fine (AV scan/ Malware scan,) and you don't notice anything else wrong - reboot your system.
It should load up as normal.
