Yeah, bit of a pain with my iPhone too, all of my early accessories have been rendered entirely useless.
Good way for Apple to make money though!
The specs were given out by apple to manufacturers in plenty of time, the manufacturers just chose not to use those specs. I think it is a case of manufacturers wanting you to buy another speaker, rather than apple. Good way for Apple to make money though!
but why move the interface around... the definition of an interface is something that you can agree is a 'given' way for things to interact. If Apple move the goalposts by changing the interface (and why would they really need to do that other than to make money?) then this renders the whole concept pointless. They would have been better off just changing the whole shape of the socket to make it a more transparent change.

What? And make your speaker docking completely useless? I can still use my speakers even if it doesn't charge. The reason it changed was because firewire support dropped, as far as I am aware, and it was these power pins that are the reason that some speakers don't work. There was a technical bullitin put out by apple about this I believe within a good time frame, but many manufacturers never actually bothered to implement it.Blue Meanie said:
