Any whizzkids on Office 2000 will probably know what I mean. Am looking for help on locating the data1.msi file which my computer has suddenly decided it wants to install rather than opening up Excel files.

Although a good google has revealed this as a topic of discussion and MS own site has a soultion posted, I cannot find the file on my system (and yes I have made sure that all hidden files are shown!)

Can anyone lead this blind man out of the tunnel?

Yup: Office 2000 running on Windoze '98SE

I’ve had this problem on mine recently.
Can’t remember if it was home or works PC.

The data1.msi file should be located in the Program Files/Microsoft office folder.

I think I just reinstalled Excel, however if that doesn’t work drop me a mail and I’ll send you a copy of the file in question.

The file in question is absolutely huge (hundred of megs) so you may not want to do that! As mentioned earlier, you'll need the source CD. Whilst you're at it, install all components of the product fully and that should prevent a reoccurence!

OK guys - thanks for that, and your offer Big Al.

I have the CD up in the loft - had thought I had loaded all components, but that was about 18 months ago when I built this little box.

Guess I was just looking for any short cuts, before a reinstall.
