ipconfig /renew doesnt always work?

Hello network guru's

I often need to unplug my corporate lan cable to move location for meetings etc, when I re-plug elsewhere try cmd-> ipconfi /renew, it works sometimes but other times doesn't leaving me to log out and go back in to fix.

Any better ways of doing this?

you should do an ipconfig /release first, to clear the previous values.

I found the solution to this issue that worked best for me was to shut down the network port on the lappie, move to new location, plug into network then re-enable. Might work for you ?

Thanks mike, will try the release first (think tried once and cmd had defaulted to a network drive and throwing an error, and wouldn't allow me to change)

Bigdods- How do I do this? my networking knowledge is limited.

assuming its XP - Start > Control Panel , click 'network connections' icon , right click 'local network connection' then select disable. the same but 'enable' when lappie is moved.
