O2 Broadband Bittorrent throttling?
Discussion
Anyone else on O2 noticed a real slow down in torrenting speed?
I'm on a torrent at the moment. 18,000+ seeders and 9000ish leechers.
Usually with that ratio I would be getting 1mb plus speeds.
Only getting 200kbps at the moment. I was getting 5kbps before I swapped from utorrent to vuze.
Vuze uses different ports to utorrent so it could be that part of O2's throttling technique involves that unique port.
I don't run firewall software and my router has never given me any problems since it's upnp compliant as are most torrent clients.

Just talked to someone from O2. It seems they do 'traffic management' on their access service but I don't use that service because I'm near a decent exchange.
I'll look into this further and report back. I know O2 said they were going to f
k about with my modem not long ago, so might be something there.

Haven't noticed any reduction on speeds when using private trackers. Public trackers always seem to give crap speeds. Try downloading a Linux distro and seeing what speed that gives - they tend to be very well seeded and you should be able to max out your connection.

I was downloading from EZTV. It's public, but somehow better than private trackers when it comes to speed.Edited by wiffmaster on Wednesday 24th March 18:29
I think they have a few people with 100mbit connections or something.
