Odd Internet Explorer Issue...

I've had IE8 for a while now and ever since I've had it it's also had the same ocassional repeating problem. Regardless of time of the day I suddenly find myself unable to open a second window or tab, it just will not connect to any site in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc window.
The first operates just fine with no speed issues at all so there's nothing wrong with the connection, that's absolutely fine it seems but for love nor money I just cannot seem to open another window up and connect to the net. Tried refreshing, different sites, closing all windows and nothing goes, it's like IE8 is just stopping me using more than one browsing window, very frustrating indeed.
Is this some odd security feature I don't know of or just the program being rubbish?
(PS. Can we avoid the obvious of "why don't you just use Mozilla/Firefox etc"

Because... ? )In before claims of having to use a website/service that doesn't support Firefox
