As the title says -- it's about time I replaced my old WRT54GS with something a bit more feature-rich.

The number one requirement is being able to share a couple of USB hard disks for backup (using TimeMachine, so it either needs to work with HFS+ disks, or it needs to be hackable with openWRT-style firmware to make it work) and stashing media that I don't want cluttering up my laptop's hard disk.

I'm not particularly worried about RAID, so I don't need a full-on NAS solution. Gigabit ethernet and/or 802.11n would definitely be useful, as would being able to stream media to my xbox 360.

Budget is sub-£150.

Any ideas?

ETA: I'm on Virgin Media, so it just needs to be a router, no ADSL modem required.

anyone?

Linksys WRT610N and Belkin Play Max are looking goodish at the moment.

Unfortunately neither support TimeMachine (although the linksys can be reflashed with a linux distro so I could potentially hack support in myself..).

I'm interested in this as well - Want the same and am on Virgin as well. Want one that I can plug in my USB Hard drive to.

How about this one, not sure it meets all your requirements.

Draytek stuff always seems to get a good rep. I will be looking at one of these soon.

if you actually want "OK" USB NAS performance then the WNDR3700 Netgear gets good reviews

http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/content/view/30925/...

you can actually get 8-10MB/s out of it ...some of the others are measure in KB/s ...you need a lot of horsepower/RAM for reasonable NAS performance

Download Secrets (Sys Prefs pane), to enable NAS disks selection option for Time Machine.
