Wondered if anyone's any experiences of these (obviously I'm also hitting Google)?

We have a dozen or so unique SSL certs for various public facing websites where encryption and browser trust (i.e. no "Do you trust this site" popups) are more important than EV and having an expensive cert behind it all.

We also have more and more internal sites/software where SSL would be nice and as much as the expense of adding SSL for all of these it's the hassle of different termination dates - the Startcom SSL Wildcard certs at $49 have caught my attention for obvious reasons.

You're talking against yourself here..

If trust and compatibility are the most important, then use the more expensive big name issuers.. they are more expensive for a reason.. they're the best..

the only reason to use a non big 3 is that you're cheap and want to save money.. sometimes this works for companies.. sometimes it doesnt.

at $49, try it and see.

Poor wording on my part, all I meant by trust/compatibility is that I want something that uses roots that are built into pretty much any modern OS/browser so as to avoid having to distribute roots etc. and that's my concern rather than "premium" stuff like EV and a "big 3" name - RapidSSL at $10 a pop works fine for what we need, it's just a bit unmanageable as you acquire more and more of them.
