Help needed please from someone who knows what they're on about. I have wireless broadband through Virgin (normal phone line rather than fibre optic). When ever we go to connect, the laptop can pick up a signal but it seems to be blocked until you pick up the phone as if to make a call. This then frees it up and you can use the internet as normal until it suddenly gets blocked again and you pick the phone up and it starts working again. It's getting really annoying and all Virgin can suggest is that it's a wiring problem in our house but if phone etc is working surely this is wrong??!!

Has anyone got a clue what's going on?

Do you have a master socket near the front door (probably)? We have a BT one, when you take the front cover off there is a socket inside which if you use that, it should disconnect the house wiring. Plug the router and phone into that and see if it still happens. If it doesn't it would suggest proplem with the house wiring.

As above - wing it in the test socket and see if that cures it. If not, try a new microfilter.

We've tried that one in the past and it does seem to cure it. The only problem with using that socket though is there's no plug near it so we end up with cables across the hall. It's a new build house and we're still well with in our warranty so what would I be getting their resident sparky to look out for as I know they will do their best to fob me off and say it's a problem with something else?

Thanks
