Radio 2 are currently running a thing on "Getting on line" which has little relevance to this except for one of the key phrases that I think Wogan is quoting which is "You can't break it".

Well they haven't met me then have they.

I run 2 P.C's and a laptop, now today I finally could no longer put off selling some stuff on E Bay so out to the garage, take the snaps and come on indoors to fire up PC 1, straight away it starts to upload a new version of opera, so I wait for this to finish and log into E Bay. Except I don't as it keeps looping back to the log in screen, so I turn off the fire Wall, Da Da! Still won't log on. So I fire up PC 2 which does not wish to load up the new Opera, good stuff we are on a roll. It lets me log on to e bay so first thing to do upload the snaps. But we won't because it won't upload a photo from the camera card, oh well maybe it's because it's on the card, so I swap the photos (2 Mega pixel mind, so not a lot of data no setting the camera to a billion mega pixels here) onto the pictures folder in windows 7.

All good.

No it's not. I have been looking at the spinny processing thing now for 10 minutes, nothing is uploading so now what? I am actually verging on anger as every time I actually want to do something intelligent with the P.C it does not work, surfing Piston Heads? No problem, try to make some cash, no chance.

I can't even sell stuff on E Bay which is a pass time that even the most technically inept can do.

Computers, promise the world and deliver bugger all.weeping

Well I've sold loads on E Bay in the past, but today the cosmic alignment is not there. Just tried the laptop and even thats not working right, e bay won't let me select a category.

So I think its off to have a cup of tea and try later.coffee

Can't be a fluke that 3 separate computers are struggling with one website can it.

Er, get an Apple Mac? No silly nonsense there and almost no virus attacks either!

Try a different browser.

Most website are written for what most people use e.g. ie although of course that should be written to standards (that ie dosen't follow very well). Turning off the firewal is probably more dangerous than using ie.

^^^ good idea.
I love Opera and use it for almost all my browsing but I've put two bug reports in already on the latest version.

I am restoring I.E on the "family" pc as I right this and will only keep Opera on the works P.C as it seems to be better at virus protection.

Opera does seem good, up to a point but I am still on the fence, but now I will run both side by side to see what happens.

When I have regained the will to carry on I will dive back onto E Bay and try to sell my Landrover wheels;)

Just do what I do. Turn the thing off and leave the office. My laptop only ever has issues when I am sat in front of it.

Both use "Hardware" and both are computers, with one you can get cheap replacable parts and run pretty much whatever your hear desires. The other is aimed at people with more money than sense, is not easily upgradable (compared to a windows style computer) and is compatible with a lot LESS things than a windows style computer (one of those being viruses...however, others being pretty much every game currently released)

Why not give Firefox a try? I've not tried Opera, but wouldn't go back to IE after Firefox. Google chrome is also good.
