My exchange was upgraded to 21CN last week and ever since I've been getting odd broadband problems.

Various speedtesters give me a download speed of 1900-2000 kbps (which is the same as before the upgrade) but, when I select a page, it takes an eternity to load - the progress text in Camino indicates that a lot of time is spent trying to connect to the site/server and waiting for the site. Just getting into Google can take 2 or 3 minutes.

My ISP is Zen and I'm using a Zyxel P660HW-T1 router with the latest firmware. I'm convinced the exchange upgrade is the reason but is there anything I can do to improve matters?

I'm synching a 2400kbps, my downstream attenuation is 62dB and my downstream SNR is 6dB - it's a long line to my exchange (although only just over a mile as the crow flies).

Just fired up Safari and I wasn't connected to the internet - turned Airport off and on again and it couldn't find my network - the router's about 3 feet from the Mac..... It did find a lot of my neighbour's networks so I've connected via ethernet and all is well.

Looks like I'll be on the hunt for a new router - any recommendations?

You need to see if your router is ADSL 2+ compatible - if not, that might well be causing the problems, as the ones not capable with ADSL2+ get a bit erratic if you connect them to such a line. If it is 2+ compatible, you could try phoning Zen and get them to put your line into 'training mode' and it should re-negotiate a higher speed.

If you're dead set on a new router, everyone will likely recommend something different. Personally I've had a Netgear DG834N Range Max Next one for 2 years, and it's been faultless.
