Can anyone using Tiscali for their ISP confirm if their internet service is working? Ours is down, but internal network is OK.

Have seen the payment on my statement for this month, so know it's not through lack of payment!!

Does Tiscali having been bought out by Talk Talk recently have any relevance here? Are Talk Talk actually any good?? frown

Sincerely,
Internetless

24 hours without the Internet frown I was starting to shake with withdrawal symptoms hehe

Anyhow, I thought this super fantastic interconnected world is supposed to look after itself? Was that not the whole idea of a global connected 'web' in-case of nuclear strike?

One fire and the whole lot comes crashing down.

The internet was up. Your ISP was down. Probably any ISP relying on centralised BT kit to supply ADSL was at risk I guess. The rest of us not relying on BT carried on regardless!

The whole lot didn't come crashing down, did it?

^^^ Point taken. But I thought its supposed to re-route. Ie you are supposed to be able to connect.

I suspect a lot of small businesses were rather peeved by yesterdays crash (I was).

Knew it was not an exchange problem as other local wireless connections were Ok (ie BT).

It can only re-route your traffic around things if you can get in. Essentially you were in the blast zone and dead and the thing that had to be worked around, so the internet worked around you. You on the other hand did not work so well.

I don't know whether this analogy is accurate or not, but when a road somewhere in the UK is closed you can generally still get where you're going via another route, UNLESS you live in a cul-de-sack and the closed road is the only way in/out of where you live.

Sound like exactly the same problem I had about 6 weeks ago...

We pay by cheque as (then) tiscali kept taking more than the agreed amount when using direct debit... anyway about 6 weeks ago I got a phone from someone who apparently worked for tiscali in the billings department and asked me for my D.O.B and address... I hate this, so I told them I have no idea they are who they say they are and if there is a problem to write to me.

A few days passed and no letter was recieved, I checked that our latest bill had been paid, all ok...

About a week later our internet stopped working, I phoned tiscali (or now talk talk) and was told that our last payment was late. It wasn't in fact it was over 2 weeks early! Anyway once they checked (and realised) it was their mistake they said that they would turn our internet back on but it would take 24-72 hours...

Fine! Unhappily I waited 24...48...72 hours, still nothing... So I phoned them again to eventually be told that there had been a technical error and the request to turn my internet back on had not been sent. Sorry sir, ill send the connection request now but its going to be 24-72 hours...

Forget it! Put me through to your cancellation department... So I went to cancel (funny how when you have a billing or technical problem your speaking to Mr Punjab in Mombai yet when you threaten to leave you get put through to Mr Smith in Slough!)

Anyway I went to cancell but decided to give them one more chance as they said I could have 3 months free if I stayed with them...

Again 72 hours came and went... So I phoned up and cancelled, I told them that the 3 months free offer should be back dated and I expect my last 3 months payment back.. Im still waiting...

Im now with SKY and so far so good.

Talk Talk even had the cheek to send me a letter saying 'we're sorry you left' bla bla bla 'please note your still in a short term contract with us' bla bla bla 'you may still be subject to charges' bla bla bla...

They are jokers of the highest order... terrible customer service as always, and employees that would get confused tieing up their own shoe laces.

Never ever ever will Talk Talk ever get any money off me again!

Yours is a frustrating story caused by TalkTalk's imcompitence, however I think yesterday's problem was a BT issue.

So is everything back up now? I couldn't get on last night and didn't have a chance to try before coming to work this morning.

for the whole of 2008, Tiscali paid me money for the service I received 8mb broadband and phone rental. Every month they messed something up with my bill "no problem we will credit £20 for the inconvenience"

Cannot complain in that respect. Went to O2 in the end.

Fair enough... it was a poor rant aswell. 3/10.

Must try harder.
