Morning all.

Got a new laptop yesterday (running Win7 Ultimate) and have installed the 64bit version of iTunes.
Tried to connect to my iPhone for the first time, and it tells me that it cannot read my iPhone, and that I need to reset it to factory settings.

This is the first time I've used iTunes / first time I've connected my iPhone.

I really don't want to have to reset the phone, but I would quite like to use some of the 32Gb for some music, so any tips chaps?

No idea mate, but I'll follow this thread as I'm considering moving to 64-bit 7.
Good to get a heads-up for any potential pit-falls or foibles. thumbup

Had that twice myself. Had to reset the phone. Total disaster. One of the many reasons I've given up on the iPhone and replaced it with a Nokia X6.

And I assume that resetting the phone wipes all text messages/contacts/apps?

Yes. Even with a backup restore you'll lose texts, but apps and contacts are backed up OK.

You may want to contact Apple support before you do a reset, they may be able to point you in some other direction.

Well, have tried the restore through iTunes.

It decided halfway through to throw an "Unknown Error - your iPhone cannot be restored" and is now sitting on an Apple logo with an empty progress bar.

Brilliant. Won't restart or anything.

There are some bugs with the current version of iTunes. v9.1 is all over the support fora for having issues with Outlook syncs and MobileMe problems. May not be your 64bit version in itself that is having a mare, might just be Apple.

I upgraded to v9.1 and now can't sync anything. I'm now doing a roll-back to v9.0.3 to see if that will solve the problem.

Took the phone back to Vodafone store who replaced it.

New one will now sync with iTunes.

Happy days.
