I'm no expert on laptops, but my mother's asking my advice, as she's after one and will only really be using it for e-mail, web browsing, the occasional word document, and storing digital photos when they're on holiday. Build in webcam might be usefull for Skype but not essential.
Being the retired type, she'd rather buy a machine from a shop than buy online, which almost certainly means PC world, and she's liking the look of this deal

I've had Dell laptops for work for years and never had any problems, but never owned one myself. This seems like an OK deal to me, but are there any better machines I should be steering her towards?

Hmmm Celeron cpu, and 2gigs of ram for £359? Think you could do a lot better for not a lot more which would mean she can keep updating it as it would have some power in reserve.
All the celeron laptops I have ever owned have struggled once they are a year old when Windows releases another service pack.
