Afternoon All

I have recently taken over management of a website

I have never used or looked at wordpress at all!

So, some of the pages, there is wordpress involved, I am looking to change one of the PHP files due to formatting issues with IE8, that only affects pages with Wordpress involved.

The site link above there is currently hosted off the back of my site (so that I don;t affect the live site), however clicking on any of the pages that have wordpress involved with (News,Resources, Case Studies and Blog) divert away to the actual live site. I would like it to stay on the "local" files I am using so that I can see if the changes I have made have worked. (hope that reads OK!)

The link set up appears to be the same for the wordpress links and the standard html links, but this clearly isnt the case, when clicking on them.
Any ideas or advice would be greatfully received!

So, you've copied all the site (and wordpress stuff) via ftp, and the database, over to your site? Everything looks ok in the html, it's really difficult to say without seeing the template(s).

The Wordpress stuff will still be pointing to the MySQL database on the live site, presumably.

It sounds like you'll probably need to mess about with the theme; this is normally stored in /wp-content/themes.

What is it you're trying to do, exactly?

I think that is probably it -
I was changing the template on the topbar in wp-content/etc etc...
If on the Wordpress pages, and running in IE8 but then press compatibility mode then the page layout is messed up. I have identified the problem and think I have resolved it.
I just wanted to test that the template I have editted is correct prior to FTP'ing it to the live site.

So I guess the only way is to upload it to the live site (which I'd rather note)

Thanks

Dave

Edit - Formatting - Should have known better!

Don't forget to take a back up off the live box in to a separate directory before you publish the new content.

If it doesn't work, then at least you can restore it....

Took the plunge and changed the live file - which did as it should fortunately.
I have made a few improvements so far - previously 2nd menu bar was on the right hand side when in IE8 compatibilty mode, have now resolved that - sits quite nicely where it should.

All menu settings where however in one PHP document so was relatively obvious how to change the settings once in there.

So now the question is.

The main body of text, all sits together, but when pressing the IE8 Compatibility button, flies off to the right as in the past.

What is the common name of the file that will bring together all the PHP wordpress files?!
TIA
