Sata / Esata compatibility?
Discussion
Just bought a new small PC, one of those mini-case jobs.
Need to get some data off the HD which resides in the old machine (which is dead). Original plan was to buy an external disc caddy, but struggled to find one at the weekend totake a 3.5" SATA drive.
Just realised though that the new machine has an ESATA port on the back.
So, will this work-
Power up old PC (doesnt boot but it gets power) run a power cable from this to the HD with the data on. Run the SATA data cable to the ESATA port on the new machine?
Will this work? Does an ESTA cable use the same fittings as an internal SATA?
Alternatively, do I need to buy an ESATA cable which will have the correct ESATA plug on one end, and then a SATA plus a power connection on the other?
