I've always bought the correct ink for our printer, but it's gone up in price loads this time (20 quid more than last time for 6 cartridges!) so I've been looking at other options. I've always heard dodgy things about non-manufacturer ink, have they improved at all or is it still as bad as it was? the savings are considerable but I've always thought you get what you pay for.

I've got an Epson if that matters, RX620.

You do get what you pay for, risks are wearing the printhead out or the ink blocking the printhead. but on the other hand the money you save, can go towards the new printer when it does get stuffed by the compatable ink cartridges. smile

I have seen brother printers screwed by compatiable ink carts in a year , but the money saved in that year paid for the new printer....

personally I use genuine carts

Yeah, that's what I thought but £50 on ink seems a bit steep!

Printer works a treat so don't really want to risk it getting clogged up and breaking, so will need to keep an eye on any offers or something.

Keep on mentioning this place -I've got an Epson c66 ,before that a Canon -the Canon was printing a newsletter approx 600 pages a month -never had a problem -kept the printer as a scanner and gave son my printhead ( his got blocked by OEM ink -so go figure ) .And price for ink for mine -approx £8 to the door ,local place for same ink -approx £15.

As I said ,try a google on rapid resolution /printer cartridges.net .

Personally, unless your printer is mission critical, then I think you have nothing to lose by trying bulk ink.

Since I had my first inkjet in the early 90's, except in a tiny number of cases , the only catridge I have ever bought , has been the one(s) that came with the printer. That includes lasers.

The only times I did have to buy new carts, was when the cart was buggared from refilling. From memory my record was 32x refill on a canon BC-02 .

I believe there are a number of companies , which will sell ink by the litre. I never had any probs at all.

Tried refilling several times on various different printers but what always seems to happen is that the refilled cartridge requires so many head cleaning cycles and printing out of pages of solid colour and so forth to pull the new load of ink through properly that it uses most of the load just getting the bloody thing to work. Even more annoying when it's only one of the colours that isn't working.

I now have a CISS and it rocks, excellent piece of kit and way less hassle.

Seem to remember on Canon ,it was worthwhile refilling - the printers were similar price ro comparable Epsons ,but with all the goodies ( like ink sensors) stripped out -so no warning that ink was about to run out -just loss of colour.

Your correct on that 100% . Software warnings of low ink levels were designed to make you buy another cartridge, full stop. Empty , or not.

Unless you have a very important niche requirement to full fill, in most cases, the most important thing to look at, when buying a printer, is the ink/toner replenishment, not by manufacturer, but by 3rd parties.

Identify printer, identify toner. No cheap refill, look for another printer. easy.
