I need a note taking facility - loosing words in my handwriting on paper is getting just too tedious. I used to use a Word document but finding stuff as it grew and it's rather adhoc way of working it got unwieldy.

I have seen OneNote and it looks quite cool,I like the idea of tabs and pages etc. and the drag and drop and search functions look really good.

Thing is I am allergic to paying for software, I don't want a pirate copy - not my bag, but does anyone know of a similar freeware application that is similar? I know freeware is never as good and I'd accept minor inadequacies or am I going to have to put my hand in my pocket?

TIA.

Give Evernote a try - http://www.evernote.com/

You can sync it all up to their service and keep it consistent across various computers and devices like iphones. Basic service is free but if you make heavier use of it the premium one is only $45 a year.

Interesting question- Despite having had MS OneNote on my laptop for nearly two years I haven't used it but in the past few weeks I thought I'd give it a whirl and devote some time to learning how to use it. I have to say I am seriously impressed and I'm kicking myself for not using it before.
Its fabulous for Client Notes, Agenda's all sorts in fact smile I can't believe I ignored it for so long.

For the price and functionality of it I would say it will pay back a dozen times over - don't walk away from it- it's really good!

if you have a smartphone would suggest using a program that syncs with pc or web.

Thanks Carsie, I must admit after looking at other offerings OneNote looks best. Problem is to buy it, it appears to come prebundled with Office only, and I already have Office.

Standalone version?

I'm a big fan of OneNote, I run a copy on my MacBook using Crossover. It's a truly excellent piece of software, well worth the 60 quid or so it would cost to get a legit version from Amazon.
