Damm moggy jumped on my laptop keyboard last night and turned something on, and im buggered if i can turn it off.

There is a light on at the top left of pad, green, looks like a padlock with a 1 in it.

When typing using letters i,o,p,j,k,l they are replaced by numbers, the letters have numbers printed on them.

How the hell do I turn this off, driving me crazy, ive pressed just about everybutton you can and nothing.

(posting this from office computer)

Num lock? It's locked the Numbers on.

Sounds like your cat switched on Num lock, should be a button or key combination somewhere on the keyboard to switch it off.

Hold the function key then what ever button has "Num lock" listed in (probably) blue (it was the home key on my evesham). That should turn it off.

I thought it was the num lock key, however pressing this does nothing.

Was thinking maybe you have to hold down something else as well, or perhaps stand on one leg or something.

Puddy cat heading back to RSPCA centre at this rate.

Sure you don't have to hold down "Fn" or something similar as well? Is there anything else printed on the same key as Num Lock? And have you got a USB keyboard you can use?

(Of course it could be the cat pissed in the num lock key just to get back at you for giving him the wrong food yesterday)

Num lock key on laptops often require you to also press another key at the same time to activate/deactivate it. On mine it's a "fn" button next to the CTRL button at the bottom left. Have you not got something similar?

If you struggle to find the correct button, just turn the laptop off (as in power off not log off!) and then restart.

The numberlock will be preset as a default value in the bios.

Make and model of laptop?
I think it is a "sticky key" function. Might be the Fn key press and hold for a bit

Now I come to try it.... I can't even use my numbers printed on the letter part of the keyboard. Num lock has no effect. And I've tried all sorts of combinations of Alt and Ctrl and Shift etc. Pah.

So no idea sorry OP.
