IT gurus I need your help! My above laptop boots up fine but once booted the internal keyboard and mouse refuse to work. The mouse curser moves fine until the XP log in screen comes up at which time they stop working. I have managed to boot up by pressing F8 and into safe mode and the mouse and keyboard both work!

Any ideas?

Ok this seems to be a virus as i cant log into safe
mode with networking but can get it to safe mode only.

Any suggestions?

try downloading Malwarebytes Anti-Malware on another PC

then install and run it on your laptop in safe mode.

Try booting into safe mode and running MSCONFIG.

Click Start-Run then type MSCONFIG and click OK.

Click the startup tab and click the button to disable all. Then click ok and restart when prompted to do so. Boot normally and see if you still have the problem. If not, then return to MSCONFIG and start enabling items one at a time until you hit on the one causing the problems.

apparently removing the battery and booting with just the mains power attached is worth trying too.

Thanks again sir! I did what you said and unmarked all but it did the same thing even with all unselected. Then removed the battery and powered direct from the mains and it worked but only for a few seconds and then froze again when i got to my desktop!

Any more ideas mate?

I think maybe it's time to get your XP disc out for a fresh install.

Have you tried booting in safe mode and uninstalling your keyboard and mouse from device manager and then restarting? might be worth a shot.
