Is it possible to download it for a stand-alone machine? I can't easily access the internet with it so want to take the setup file on a SD card and install it that way. Any thoughts?

Yes, you can do that (I do every install that way as having only a satellite internet connection means that downloading it each time is very slow!)

You can downlad the full .exe from here

Thanks. Any thoughts on Foxit reader?

Ended up trying it: seems ok and not bloated like Acrobat.

Foxit doesn't (didn't?) have support for bookmarks etc...

I don't like downloading from third party sites - may be perfectly fine but I'd rather not take the chance.
You can download the full install direct from adobe anyway: click.

Foxit reader much more lightweight and faster than the horrible acrobat reader.

Recommended here.

Too late, but just adding support for FoxIt. We even use it commercially in products at work now.

+1 for Foxit. But it can not handle Acrobat PDF forms properly. Also Foxit works better on a terminal server or when you are remote controlling your work PC from home, whereas Acrobat had a habit of showing black blocks over the text making it unreadable.

Slightly off-topic question but is there a way of copying text in a document when it's locked from copying. Locked text means I can't get my Hal text reader to read the document out loud. rolleyes

I would install Microsoft's text printer driver and print to that, which allows you to save it as a text file. If printing the doc is not disabled. Also I would install PDF creator and print it to TIFF then OCR this with Microsoft Office Document Imaging.

Thanks. That might work (printing to text).

Edit: created unreadable .prn files. Any thoughts?

Did you install the Microsoft text printer and print to that, or did you just print to your normal printer but tick the box to print to file? I would try OCR instead!

Installed the text printer driver, then printed to file. Have you tried it? How do you open the .prn file?

Just try printing to a text file from any pdf or Word doc.
