I'm after an external battery for the iPhone 3GS to extend the battery life - specifically so i can use
the Golfshot App during a round of golf.

Anyone have any recommendations ? cost ? how long does it increase battery life for ?

Thanks,
Nick

Assuming you don't walk from your house to the golf course, why not invest in a car charger for the thing, and plug it in.
It's bound to last a round of golf!
Of course turn off the wifi and bluetooth, whilst on the course, even stick it in airplane mode, to preserve the battery life.

Mophie battery jacket thingy. I've had mine about 8 months now, and it's great.

Thanks for the replies.

Agreed the battery should last for a round of golf.

Reading about the App, it does mention turning off Wi-Fi / Bluetooth to save battery.

I was planning on passing the phone around my playing partners so we could all have a go at using it - hence the extra battery.

Looking into the 'Mophie battery jacket' option.

Cheers,
Nick

Well, why not try it the once without anything, and see how you get on.
If suitably impressed with the App, but run out of battery, then next time you know you'll need the extender option.

PJS - Sound idea..... smile

DevilStreak - App has a good write up and for £18.99 it looks a bargain.
Lots ad lots of courses available.

Well, sort of. Nifty design, doesn't add too much bulk and integrates nicely. Bit pricey, only really gives one extra charge, and takes a while to recharge.

I have an external battery jobbie for travelling with. Extend the power by about 7 hours. It's a mophie one and hasn't missed a beat. The good thing is it uses a regular usb cable to power, which means you can sync using that cable too.

Wife has a Mili alternative. Its the new Powerskin same as the Mophie Air - but cheaper.

Works well and is under £50. Only happy working with the supplied cable or other quality ones - otherwise will only charge the Mili and not pass through to the iPhone.

Disappointment is that it has come apart on a seam - either bad glue / sonic welded joint. The supplier has offered to swap it out when we get back from holiday - but it would glue if I wanted.

Using on the golf course - not on one of the many Scottish courses where we are at present. iPhone - if your lucky / Sony Ericsson - wins hands down (and on a standard battery).

So you bought a cheap alternative and were disappointed? biggrin

Brilliant bit of kit. Great protection too - I wouldn't dare take my iphone to work without it (general building work)

It's a skin though - no thicker than some of the protective cases being sold.

Those you have linked to appear to be massive bulky things, which is what I have a PowerMonkey and FreeLoader for.
