Bought Win7 upgrade from Vista. Its screwed up my pc and theres endless loop issues.

As its not upgrading my software can I get a refund from PC world? Its not doing what it should? Not fit for use? What do you think?

as this is PH

Could you return the car you just brought as not fit for use due to you never learning to drive?

Its PC world so they may take it back, but i wouldn't count on it.

Format the drive and start again, download the relevant drivers from the pc manufactures web site. you did backup your data i assume.

What brand of PC? Make/model
Did you use the Win7 upgrade advisor or just the hope and pray method?

Does the upgrade have a new win key or does it just use your old one??

If it has a new windows key they will NOT take it back ... Probably on the Ts&Cs on the outside of the box!!

Yeap I tried the windows advisor; all was well. It installed okay entered the key and it seemed okay. I went to shut down and the PC started to update some stuff and then rebooted and then for 12 hours (left it over night) showed a screen saying 'windows starting'.

Just wont let me get in so I have to turn the pc off from the mains and when rebooting the pc gives me two options; safe mode or normal mode.

When I run safe mode the pc repairs windows and says there is no solution to the fix and in normal mode it does not let me into windows and states 'windows starting'!

great software for upgrading!

thats why you should always start with a flat system, upgrading one os to another no matter how similar is always a compromise, as has been said above, if it lets you, flatten the PC and start from a blank Hard Drive, I'm running a dual boot win 7 and vista work laptop and 7 is so much better and much more stable, I've even stopped using XP.

Do you have any external USB HDD's plugged in??

Sometimes mine won't start with an external HDD plugged in, unplug, restart and it goes fine.

external drive is plugged in via usb but there is no power going into the drive so it would not register on the start up?

I am going to take it back to PC work and see what they say!!! Will pick up a fuss! I installed the package as per instructions and used windows upgrade advisor.

intention is to do a clean upgrade if PC world allow me to do aexchange!

Your going to have to do a clean install of something anyway ... so why not do a vista install, try the upgrade again then if it doesn't work go kick up a fuss.

PS Don't expect it to get you anywhere!!

It will probably register as there is power over the USB connection, but not enough to spin up the drive (hence it needs the external power too).

There are some issues with Win7 and upgrading from XP and Vista... have seen a few at work as well..

So much easier, cleaner etc if you just backup your data on a usb stick an do a proper clean install!

Hmm, putting my SOGA hat on, OP bought a product to do a job, it doesn't, therefore not fit for purpose ...
If he made the correct checks proir to this, which he apparently did, then I can't see how they can (legally) refuse. I know win upgrades can be probalmatic, but that is not the OPs problem, if the shop doesn't like it, they shouldn't sell the software.

I have had issues doing a Vista to W7 upgrade in the past.

If you can I would wipe the system and do a fresh install.

Microsoft have also just announced that they are discontinuing support for Vista shortly

easiest way is to back up data, format boot partition or drive, install and that's it

pc world will probably claim the OP broke the pc, naturally wipe all photos and media or they might be used / find their way onto the net

Yep, even removed USB from the sequence, but it still does it. Doesn't bother me that much, at least I know whats causing it.

Now my BIOS forgetting ALL settings at least once every few months, THATS annoying.

Have you changed the motherboard battery. Thats what keeps the BIOS settings "alive"

but is it the shops' responsibility to provide support for the manufacturer
they'll say that they are just acting as a distributor

is it Tesco's fault if the petrol you use isn't right ? or the refinery ?
