When I shut down last night, W7 performed an update before switching off.
This morning, there was a 'finish off' done as the computer started, and a restart (so basically it restarted twice)

Then...after a bit I realised that it was running AVG which I had uninstalled a few weeks ago!

I uninstalled it again, and went to start MS Security Essentials - it wasn't installed, and I had to get it again from MS web site.

I presume tat this was a compulsory 'unbundling' simlar to IE - but it's f'ing confusing, and now users will now have either no virus checker, or something they uninstalled earlier.

Either that, or for some reason my computer has been set back to a previous restore point - how do I check this?

Sorry OT but does the MS product give email protection? (incoming & outgoing scanning?). Thanks

Just for info - Win7 64bit Ultimate, installed restarted and did nothing else after updates.

I would worry if yours installed or removed existing software.

Same here - various W7 32bit Ultimate and Professional. Updates installed, restarted, nothing unexpected at all AFAIK.

W7 x64 home premium installed updates, it had unpinned items from taskbar (firefox), easily restored.

Maybe AVG wasn't uninstalled properly before you installed MSE, and caused one of the updates to crash.
More and more people are reporting problems with AVG these days especially the latest version.
