Can I cancel iphone contract?

During my 'Gardening' leave between jobs late last year, I purchased an iphone on a 18 month contract. I now have a Blackberry thro my work, and although I like the iphone, I just don't use it enough to justify the £35 pm.
Is there any way of cancelling contract / returning phone / selling phone?
Thanks in advance for advice.

Not always. I canceled by Vodaphone contract a few years back. They charged me just the lines rental - i.e. they took off the cost of the calls that I was no longer going to make - even though I had an inclusive tariff.
I bet that wasn't a contract that included an expensive handset for "free" though, was it?The £35pcm contract is subsidising the cost of the handset, so don't expect much of a discount if anything.
